Fat Loss Lifestyle – Hormones

So we touched on these in the last post, but what do these have to do with weight loss and fat loss?

Different hormones determine which calories we are going to burn off, in this case what do we want to burn off? I get lots of women say who cares I just want to be skinny (back to my 8 stone answer in previous posts). So do you want to lose muscle or fat? I hear this line a lot ‘Well i don’t want to look like a bodybuilder’ from my ladies as they lift 5 kg dumbbells and worry they are going to get huge. This is not the case as you will see in the gym all of those guys picking up much heavier weight and still not got these huge biceps, but do they look leaner than the guy pounding out on the treadmill?

Anyways back to the point, hormones roles are as follows, some you will of heard of and others you will not be so familiar with: –

LEPTIN – this is your fuel gage, am i hungry or satisfied?
CORTISOL – we hear this is bad but if mixed with different foods is it good or bad?Does it make you store fat?
INSULIN – Sugar? Where do we store this?
ADRENALINE – does this affect how we burn? stress/ anxiety? do these burn calories? Can they be productive?
THYROID – this affects whether we store fat or burn fat so we need this to be in check
GROWTH HORMONE – help builds muscle when combined with exercise, which burns fat?
TESTOSTERONE – If this is elevated, helps build muscle and burn FAT????

This shows that hormones determine what type of calories you are going to burn, so although you may lose weight are you losing fat or storing fat. Weight loss is not always the best, where as fat loss always burns fat giving you a better looking body. Back to my initial point, do you want to see the scales saying a certain number or do you want to look fit and firm?

So we now know hormones all affect whether we store fat or burn fat, but we need to know how we make them work correctly. The more posts you read it will all piece together.

We will talk about hormonal effect on exercise next time, this will make all of the hormones make sense and we will tell you how you can use them to aid you burning fat and not burning muscle.
