Sound familiar?

Have you tried a diet recently where you have to take supplements, juices or meal replacements? (Mentioning no names.)

I’m guessing a lot of people have tried this before summer holidays and lost weight, right?

Let me ask you a question, how many of you have come off of the diet and managed to maintain the weight or feel leaner?

I see and hear about so many people that have been on these extreme diets and lost tons of weight and yet still never been happy with their body and put back on all of the weight plus more. This is due to the fact that you are often put on a diet that allows you around 700 kcal a day, which is crazy. In that respect if you put less in than goes out, the fact of the matter is, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT. However is losing weight your only goal?

I often do consultations (especially with women) and ask them what do you want to achieve out of this, the most common answer is, “I want to be 8 stone”. What does 8 stone look like? Does it make you feel better looking down at the scales and seeing you are a particular weight?

I always babble on about fat loss diets Vs weight loss diets. My reasons for this are, would you rather see numbers on a scale, or see heads turn when you walk past? Fat loss is about how you look and feel, I feel great when people tell me how good I look. They don’t come up to me in the street and say, “Hey how much do you weigh?”.

This is my point, make fat loss a lifestyle, not a weight loss diet. Fat loss diets (if you want to call it a diet) will help you lose weight and stacks of FAT, but will build lean muscle, giving you a sleeker body shape. Muscle gain (not looking like a bodybuilder) will allow you to eat more (of the right foods), exercise for shorter durations. We at MSV Training incorporate exercise in to these programs to help aid fat loss allowing you to lose fat whilst you rest.
